Thanksgiving Week Recap

There are so many fun Thanksgiving crafts.  Our favorites are the pinecone turkey:

And the toilet paper roll turkey that we made this week with our playdate friends:

We simply glued a toilet paper roll onto a piece of paper then glued some craft sticks for the feathers, googly eyes, a nose, and a waddle for our cute little turkey!

The entire month of November we focused on what we were thankful for by putting up leaves on our tree of thanks:

Dragon Week: Toilet Paper Roll Dragons

We had a blast making some toilet paper roll dragons today:

After painting the toilet paper green, we got to work!

Putting some green pom-poms as eyes and a nose and then attaching googly eyes:

We cut out strips of orange and red crepe paper:

And glued them to the inside of the roll:

Which is a perfect way to create a fire-breathing dragon!

Planet Week: SET Rocket Launch

We just had to do our Rocket launch for this week's S.E.T.!  We had a kit that contained a small rocket and a beaker that you would fill up with baking soda and vinegar and watch as the rocket blasted out of the container:

Setting up our baking soda:

Loading the rocket:

Watching it launch:

The kiddos were a bit disappointed by the lack of true "launch" our rocket made.  I found a cool video online to do when the little ones are a bit older that has directions for a really neat rocket and a time-lapse release of the baking soda.  Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwiosotOlWU

Since there is no disappointment in science, we decided to bring out a cookie sheet, a plastic volcano, and some pipettes so that we could make more "explosions" with the baking soda and vinegar:

They really loved the way it fizzed!

So much science fun!

Planet Week: Making Constellations

Today we made constellations using toothpicks and Styrofoam balls:

Monkey J is actually starting to name some!  His favorites are Leo and Orion, the hunter!

This is a great activity for improving fine motor skills:

Planet Week: Styrofoam Planets

We had such a fun time making our planets this afternoon!  We used styrofoam balls from The Dollar Store and toothpicks to hold them upright while we painted them:

I got out our planets poster and some paint so that Monkey J could try to paint the planets the colors on the chart:

Our finished product was quite amazing!

Planet Week: Sensory Bin

My husband drew an awesome solar system for the little ones:

Our Planets sensory bin was also quite the hit!

And in the afternoon we had fun drawing some constellations:

We're off to a great start with planet week!

Brown Week Sensory Experiment: Chocolate Sludge

As part of our brown week, we made some chocolate sludge using baking soda, hair conditioner, and chocolate duncan hines frosting mix:

We were going to make chocolate ice cream using 3 parts baking soda to 1 part hair conditioner:

But Mommy's little helpers weren't the best at measuring ;)

And our chocolate ice cream quickly turned into chocolate sludge:

But it just goes to show that you can't really make a mistake when it comes to playtime!
